The injury bug has been big this first week of training camp. Pitta’s injury has been upgraded to the season ending variety. The rankings posts and projections in the stat calculator tool have been adjusted for the season ending injuries of Maclin and Pitta.
The injury bug just kept on rolling today as one of my favorite breakout candidates of this year, Dennis Pitta, dislocated his hip. It sounds like the injury is pretty serious and he will absolutely be on the shelf for the season opener and probably longer. The stars are really starting to align for Torrey Smith who I had pegged as being overvalued heading into this year after the departure of Boldin. I was looking more towards Pitta as being the breakout candidate, but with this injury I’m starting to like Smith’s chances of having that breakout year. I still think Smith will be overvalued heading into draft day so I doubt I will end up drafting him in any leagues, but I’d now be a little surprised if he didn’t break the 1000 yard plateau. Ed Dickson will see a bump up in his value while Pitta is out, but not enough to be fantasy relevant. I expect the Ravens to rely on the running game even more this year when you combine the loss of Boldin and temporary loss of Pitta, so I give Ray Rice and Bernard Pierce a slight uptick in value as well.
